Press Release: H.E. Mr. Steve Stevaert, a new Chairman of the Board of Control of the Dinh Vu Industrial Zone Project in Hai Phong, Vietnam
At the occasion of the official visit of to Belgium of H.E. Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan, Chairman of the Hai Phong Peoples Council and Member of the Central Party’s Committee, H.E. Mr. Steve Stevaert, former Governor of the Province of Limburg and Minister Vice-President of the Government of Flanders and Chairman of the SPA party, and actual Minister of State, was officially invited to take the chair of the Board of Control of the Dinh Vu Industrial Zone Project in Hai Phong Vietnam. Mr. Stevaert kindly accepted this invitation.
The Dinh Vu Industrial Zone Project is a Public Private Partnership between the Government of Hai Phong and an international investment consortium, headed by International Port Engineering & Management, affiliate of the Antwerp based Rent-a-Port and 50/50 controlled by stock listed Ackermans & van Haaren and Group CFE. The project encompasses the development of a 1200 Ha port related industrial zone, focussing on heavy industry. The project started in 1997 en has meanwhile become the largest petro-chemical centre of the northern Vietnam, with also steel manufacturing- and assembly plants as clients. The Zone offers international standard port facilities including container- and general cargo terminals as well as liquid jetties for petro-chemical goods. To date the Zone has provided already more than 9000 jobs and several important industries are still under construction.
The development of the zone is materialized in different phases with special attention being paid to the environment. The development of the Dinh Vu peninsula offers the opportunity to safeguard the Unesco World heritage of Ha Long Bay, from further industrial pressure. The bundled development of the zone in accordance with international standards creates the opportunity to integrate the different industrial processes and offer direct access to the sea.
In the presence of H.E. Nguyen Manh Dzung, Ambassador of the S.R.Vietnam to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union, the excellent relations between Belgium and Vietnam were highlighted and the Dinh Vu Industrial Zone project was earmarked as an example of excellent long term cooperation between Belgian and Vietnamese companies and authorities.
